Eligibility: For teams of teachers, garden coordinators and core parent volunteers who have a relationship with a specific school or school district
Description: This five-day intensive residential training offers hands-on skills and theoretical approaches to create and sustain school garden programs. Includes sessions on integrating the garden into curricula and state standards, as well as nutrition, recycling and vermiculture, composting, project-based learning, art, team building and fundraising. Participants also receive 20 hours of hands-on learning in the garden, written materials, curricula, a resource binder, and 18 months of technical support offered to each participating school by OAEC staff.

Participants explore the interconnectedness of the ecological principles underlying sustainable food systems, personal and community health, and how food provides a window into understanding cultures.

The Grants Program is intended to foster a deeper understanding of redwood forests through personal visits and educational experiences among a broad, diverse audience. Grants are available for a wide range of redwoods-related education projects, including those that: 1) Provide firsthand experiences to people of all ages and diverse backgrounds . 2) Encourage classroom teachers to teach students about redwoods . 3) Foster the sharing of resources OR evaluate existing programs . 4) Engage the public in redwood forest research through citizen science projects

Description: With budget deficits affecting school districts across the country, greening your school -- one of the quickest ways to save money (to the tune of thousands of dollars a year) -- is becoming a necessity. The non-profit Global Green USA is hosting a Green School Makeover Competition to “green” the winning school. Here’s how it works: tell Global Green how you plan to green your school (make sure the principal and/or facilities manager signs off too) and follow the instructions for submitting an application any time from March 1- September 30, 2011.
Award: Grand prize is $65,000 for school greening, plus an additional $65,000 of in-kind technical assistance. Four additional schools will each receive $2,500 towards their green school renovations.
