SET UP INSTRUCTIONS • Use this invitation link to sign up: http://bit.ly/ssti2011ningregister. • Fill out the profile information questions (please note that all participants in the Teaching Studio will be able to view this information). • Click on the link to go to the Ning site which takes you to our homepage. The following are types of information on the site: o Schedule and events o Links to specific course pages (Groups), including one for the lunchtime Tech Studio) o Photos o Discussion forums JOINING YOUR GROUP/COURSE AREA Within the CSET Ning site, each course has a dedicated area (called a Group). Once you have joined the CSET Ning site, please join the group area that has been set up for your course. • From the CSET Ning homepage, click on your group (course name). • Click on the invitation in the Upper Right to “Join this group”. • An overview page can be found here: http://bit.ly/ssti2011ning to see some of the features and uses of one of the course pages. CUSTOMIZE YOUR PROFILE You might also now wish to customize your profile page. This is a personal page that all members of 2011 CSET can see – but which will probably be most frequently visited by participants in our class. To customize it, • Go to the "My Page" link on the top horizontal menu bar. • Click on "Add photo" or “Change Photo” in the upper left corner of the page. Sometimes this only appears if you hover your mouse over the default image/existing photo on your page. • Add a photo from your computer (you can change this at any time). • Click save. • Consider adding a status update in the field toward the top that says, “What brings you here?” You might write about your expectations for the class, how you’re feeling right now, your goals for the workshop, an observation about teaching or learning, etc. For those of you who use Facebook, this is a bit like a Facebook status update. • You can further customize your profile page to your liking by dragging the fields (“Profile Information”, “Comment Wall”, “My Photos”, “Textbox”) into different locations on the page. If you have any questions, please email Cammy Huang, cammy.huang@stanford.edu.
